Dallas Mavericks best lineups for closing games: 3. Defense first
If Dallas is looking to protect a lead, they could opt to put out their best defensive five to ice the game. Coach Kidd has made it a point to emphasize defense in all of his official team press conferences so far.
PG: Luka Doncic
SG: Reggie Bullock
SF: Dorian Finney-Smith
PF: Maxi Kleber
C: Kristaps Porzingis
Doncic stays on the floor to run the offense. This unit features four shooters around the Mavericks superstar, so expect a ton of Luka and KP pick and rolls with drive and kick actions. Dallas will attempt to spread the opposition out, and let their star finish it.
Bullock, Finney-Smith, and Kleber give the Mavs three switchable defenders to take on the opposition’s best scorers. Porzingis will be the rim protector with Doncic offering help defense as he matches up on the player least likely to get a bucket.
These five give the Dallas Mavericks the best chance to get stops and finish out the victory. Expect coach Jason Kidd to turn to it if his team is bleeding points in the fourth quarter. Tim Hardaway Jr. could replace Bullock or Finney-Smith if the Mavericks are searching for a bit more offense and shot creation in the unit, but this is their best defensive five.
