2023 NBA Mock Draft: Mavericks go defense, Pistons surprise at 5

2. Charlotte Hornets select Brandon Miller
The first debate starts here, and there are two players under consideration for this spot. Scoot Henderson was viewed as the number two prospect coming into the season, but he struggled with the G League Ignite, and Miller had a phenomenal freshman season at Alabama. The 6’9 forward has a nearly seven-foot wingspan, and he could be the next dominant wing.
He averaged 18.8 points, 8.2 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 0.9 steals, and 0.9 blocks in 32.6 minutes per game as he shot 43.0 percent from the field and 38.4 percent on his 3-point tries. His size and versatility will have Charlotte strongly considering Miller for the second overall pick.
The Hornets have a difficult decision to make here. They have LaMelo Ball as their lead playmaker, and he needs the ball in his hands to be at his best. Do they take another ball-handler at two or do they go for the wing scorer that could be a force on both ends of the floor?
I’d go best player, but the Charlotte Hornets will likely go for Brandon Miller as their second building block. They will try to put some mass on him to increase his versatility and ensure he reaches his All-NBA potential.
