How could the Dallas Mavericks acquire Lauri Markkanen from the Bulls?
The Mavs are not giving up a first-round pick to acquire Lauri Markkanen. It appears no team is willing or the 24-year-old would have a new home at this point in the offseason. He is a talented player that is drawing plenty of interest. The Bulls will eventually come down in their asking price.
Here is a deal that works that could be a win for all three teams involved.
This deal would allow Markkanen to make $14.25 million in the first year and get five percent raises. The contract for three years comes out to a total of $44.9 million. Oklahoma City uses a trade exception to acquire Dwight Powell, Tyrell Terry and gets a second-round pick for their trouble.
Any sign-and-trade here is going to be complicated and cost the Dallas Mavericks a significant price. Will owner Mark Cuban and new president of basketball operations Nico Harrison be willing to pay it? A young guard and two second-round picks are a lot of capital for a player that may not be a seamless fit.
Where Lauri Markkanen ends up is one of the many storylines to follow as training camp approaches. Keep it locked to The Smoking Cuban for all the latest on the Dallas Mavericks.
