Where will Dallas Mavericks free-agent Tyler Bey sign?
The Mavs selected Bey 36th overall in the 2020 NBA Draft. They acquired the pick in the Seth Curry for Josh Richardson swap. With Richardson being moved to Boston on July 31, it is safe to say that trade was a disaster for Dallas, but Bey has a chance to shift the Mavericks fortunes.
Bey appeared in just 18 games for the Mavs as a rookie and played a total of 71 minutes. The 6’7 wing impressed in the G League bubble by averaging 16.2 points and 9.7 rebounds in 28.6 minutes per game over 12 contests with the Salt Lake City Stars. He was known for his defense and rebounding in college, and Bey displayed flashes of both last season.
Prediction: Dallas Mavericks re-sign Tyler Bey to a two-way contract
The Mavs still believe they can turn Bey into the 3-and-D wing that every NBA team covets. He has the potential to stand out on the defensive end of the floor, thanks to his 7’1 wingspan and athleticism. Bey’s shooting is a work-in-progress. Expect the 23-year-old to be a key piece of the Dallas Mavericks summer league squad and for him to stick around on a two-way contract for the 2021-2022 season.
