Kawhi Leonard injury improves the Dallas Mavericks odds of winning the title

The Mavs chances to win the championship improved following Kawhi Leonard’s injury. Both the Denver Nuggets and LA Clippers will have one of their top players miss the majority of the regular season recovering from ACL surgery. For Leonard or Jamal Murray to return, get their legs back under them, and then go on a deep playoff run would be mighty impressive. Both players will need to be maintained upon returning from their injury.

The Dallas Mavericks have health on their side right now. They figure to be in the running with the Phoenix Suns, Utah Jazz, and Los Angeles Lakers for the best record in the Western Conference. The higher Dallas climbs the regular-season standings only improves their odds of going on a deep playoff run.

The Mavs are far from title favorites. They are expecting to make the playoffs and take a step forward next season. Dallas must improve their roster this summer to make that a reality. New general manager Nico Harrison has a difficult job ahead. The Mavericks must find the right pieces to put around Luka Doncic to jump into title contention. It will not be an easy task.
