Dallas Mavericks sign Danny Green with mid-level exception
The Mavs have targeted Green for years, but have never been able to make the deal work. The 6’6 wing knows Kawhi Leonard well. He played with him in both San Antonio and Toronto. Green would be more than happy to join his old friend in Dallas.
The 34-year-old would be taking a pay cut. He made over $15.3 million last season. Would Green will willing to take $9.5 million to chase a ring in Dallas next to Luka Doncic, Kawhi, and Kyle Lowry?
Playing next to those three stars would be extremely enticing. Plus, Green would be returning to Texas and avoiding state income taxes. Green has talked about playing for Mark Cuban and being interested in the Mavericks previously. Add in the star talent to push him over the top in signing in Dallas.
The Mavs know exactly what they are getting. Green is a career 40.1 percent 3-point shooter that does not command the ball. He can guard multiple positions and plays sturdy defense. The 34-year-old would be the perfect role player to put around their new star-studded lineup. His championship experience just adds another desirable piece to the puzzle for the Dallas Mavericks.
