Where do Dallas Mavericks stand in the race for Damian Lillard?

Every team in NBA will try to acquire to 30-year-old superstar. He is one of the best point guards in the league and has led the Blazers to the playoffs eight straight years.

Lillard does not just want to make the playoffs, though. He wants to win a championship. Those aspirations limit the possible trade partners significantly. There are six teams in the Eastern Conference and seven in the west that Lillard could give serious consideration to if he demands a trade. Phoenix and Milwaukee seem like unlikely fits given they would have to trade Chris Paul and Jrue Holiday to get back Lillard. The Nets are also loaded at the guard position.

Dallas is among the top ten contenders if Lillard demands a trade. The Lakers are likely the frontrunner with the chance to play for LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Utah and Philadelphia finished with the best records in their conference and would be willing to trade Mike Conley and Ben Simmons to get Dame. The Nuggets have the reigning MVP, and the Clippers need a point guard.

Fans should not count out the Mavs, though. Lillard is a fan of Luka Doncic and has a previous relationship with new general manager Nico Harrison. The Mavs likely stand somewhere from third to seventh on Dame’s wish list. Here is a closer look at the Dallas Mavericks odd of landing Damian Lillard.
