Dallas Mavericks best coaching replacement for Rick Carlisle: 3. Chauncey Billups
Billups spent 17 years in the NBA and has a stellar resume of his own. The five-time All-Star was the starting point guard on the Pistons 2004 championship team. Mr. Big Shot knows what it is like to lead a championship team on the floor.
Billups retired in 2013 and spend some time working in television before joining the LA Clippers as an assistant this season. He is credited with helping Paul George expand his playmaking (subscription required). Billups is interviewing for the Celtics and Trail Blazers head coach openings, so the Mavericks may have to act fast if they want to sign Mr. Big Shot.
Fans have seen championship point guards have a ton of success in the coaching rankings in recent years. Steve Kerr won three times with the Golden State Warriors. Tyronn Lue and Doc Rivers played point guard in the NBA to make it three of the seven active head coaches that have won a championship. Steve Nash has the Nets in the second round of the playoffs in his first season. Could Billups be the next name on that list?
Expect the Dallas Mavericks to consider the five-time All-Star in their search.
