Kristaps Porzingis trade the Dallas Mavericks could pull off: 4. Lonzo sign-and-trade

This is the wildest trade on the board featuring Porzingis, but it could be just what the Pelicans are searching for this offseason. They embraced using Zion Williamson as their lead ball-handler late in the season. New Orleans wants to add shooting around their point forward as they look to return to the playoffs for just the third time since 2012.

This would have to be a sign-and-trade deal as Lonzo Ball is a restricted free agent this offseason. The Pelicans have a difficult decision to make on the 23-year-old guard. Do they pay him $15-20 million per season as a 3-and-D wing with playmaking ability? Handing out that deal puts New Orleans into the luxury tax. Their best bet may be looking at sign-and-trade options.

The Pelicans could also be looking to unload Steven Adams as they try to space the floor around Zion. Adams gives Dallas a rim-protecting and rebound threat. The 6’11 big man could also form a lethal pick and roll combination with Luka Doncic. Adams scored 1.29 points per possession as a roll man in his final year in Oklahoma City.

New Orleans is unlikely to give up two starters for Kristaps Porzingis. Dwight Powell would give them a roll man and lob threat to help replace Adams. The Pelicans also score two second-round picks to balance out the trade.
