Dallas Mavericks: 5 reasons Luka Doncic should be considered for MVP
By Tyler Watts
Why Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic should be considered for MVP: 1. Numbers
Luka finished in the top four in MVP voting last season because he put up incredible counting stats. The numbers are down slightly in 2021, but still otherworldly. The 22-year-old is averaging 28.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, 8.8 assists, 1.0 steal, and 3.0 3-pointers made per game on 48.3 percent shooting from the field and 35.9 percent on his threes.
Doncic currently sits fourth in scoring, 20th in rebounding, and third in assists per game. Nikola Jokic, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and the Mavericks star are only three players in the top 20 in all three categories. All three deserve MVP consideration just for that.
Luka has improved his game significantly. He finished fourth in MVP voting in 2020, so it is strange that so many people are not considering him this year.
Doncic could be the youngest MVP in league history if he wins. The Dallas Mavericks would need to go on a crazy run and move into the top four to make that a reality, but Luka should be in every MVP conservation from now until the award is handed out. He may not win, but the 6’7 guard should be on nearly every ballot.
It will not be long before Luka Doncic is winning the MVP award. Mavs fans should be excited about the present and future in Dallas. Do not miss a second of the action.
