Dallas Mavericks grade for J.J. Redick trade with Pelicans

The Mavs fill the shooting hole left by Seth Curry with Redick. The veteran is a career 41.5 percent 3-point shooter that excels on catch and shoot attempts. Luka Doncic is one of the best players in the NBA at creating open threes. Redick should flourish in Dallas as the Mavericks have one of the league’s best offenses down the stretch.

The 36-year-old also brings leadership and experience to Dallas. The Mavs waived J.J. Barea during training camp, and the team has missed that veteran presence in the locker room. Redick could fill that void and help Dallas reach the next level.

He has not played since March 3 because of a heel injury. Hopefully, the veteran guard will return in short order, but it is something to monitor.

Dallas Mavericks grade for J.J. Redick trade with Pelicans: A-minus

The Mavs turned two players that rarely play and a second-round pick that should fall in the 40s at best into a solid rotation piece that plugs one of the team’s holes. That sounds like a fantastic piece of business. Dallas did not hit the home run by acquiring another star but grabbing Redick nets them an A-minus grade.
