The Dallas Mavericks have won six of their last eight games as Luka Doncic has caught fire. They got off to a slow start because of a myriad of issues, but they are finally putting it all together.
The Mavs have played their last three games without Kristaps Porzingis. He suffered a back injury during the team’s week off, and the organization has been cautious with their star.
Mavericks fans received positive news on Friday as KP appears set to return on Feb. 27 against the Brooklyn Nets. He talked about his injury and the recent trade rumors that have been circulating. Here is a closer look at what the Unicorn had to say.
Dallas Mavericks star Kristaps Porzingis on his injury and the trade rumors
KP had this to say about his back injury.
"“Today, I went full practice. Felt pretty good. I hope I can play tomorrow. It is always tough to sit out and not be able to play, but I just try to stay focused on the work I need to do to come back as soon as possible and feel good on the court. That’s most important. When I’m out there, I want to help my team and play at the level that I know I am capable of.”"
Coach Rick Carlisle noted during his media availability that he expects Porzingis to play barring a setback in the morning. It is fantastic that the Unicorn is feeling better and should be ready to star in the team’s final three games before the All-Star break.
KP also had this to say about the recent trade rumors that were put out there.
"“It came out. It is what it is. I don’t know what is going behind the scenes and I shouldn’t be too worried about it because it can only distract me at the end of the day. I try to focus on being in the moment and being here day-to-day. Putting in the work with my teammates and getting better. I’m just focused on playing, playing better, and getting wins now.”"
Fans should not expect a Porzingis trade. The Mavs are actively looking to improve their roster, but it would be difficult for the team to move the Unicorn.
KP also talked about his frustrations in his slow start on Feb. 26. Fans can listen to his entire media session here.
