Factoring in Dallas Mavericks star Kristaps Porzingis’ contract and injury history to his trade value

Trade values in the NBA can be all over the map. Fans have heard rumors of the Cavaliers shopping five-time All-Star Kevin Love since LeBron James left Cleveland in 2018, but he remains on their roster. Injuries and a massive contract have stunted Love’s value.

KP has three full seasons and over $100 million left on his deal. He has missed 30 of a possible 104 regular-season games during his time in Dallas. The torn meniscus in the playoffs was a crushing blow. The Mavericks had the Clippers on the ropes with Porzingis healthy, but they lost two of three games without the Unicorn.

No player in the NBA is untradeable. KP is only 25 years old and still has immense potential when he stays healthy. Dallas wants to contend for a title. They do not have any interest in trading Porzingis for draft picks.

The Mavericks would want another star or a host of role players that help them improve their roster. Dallas has cap space in the 2021 offseason, but the free-agent crop lacks star talent making it more important that Dallas gets at least one key piece back in a trade. Can they find that deal? What could the Mavs get back for Kristaps Porzingis?
