Takeaway from Dallas Mavericks win over Hawks: 2. KP double-doubles
Kristaps Porzingis had one of his best games of the season on Wednesday night. He finished with 24 points, 11 rebounds, two assists, and one steal in 34 minutes of action. The Unicorn was ten of 20 from the field and drilled all three of his free throws. The Mavericks have won both times KP has scored 24 or more points this season.
He is starting to find his rhythm. Porzingis missed all of training camp and the first nine games of the regular season recovering from offseason meniscus surgery. Fans saw him throw down multiple dunks against the Hawks.
The Mavericks need the KP they saw on Wednesday night to make a deep playoff run. He was aggressive on the offensive end of the floor and rebounded well. Getting 11 against the Hawks with Clint Capela and John Collins is no easy task.
Fans should not be worried about Porzingis. The Unicorn needed some time to get back to full strength. Hopefully, Wednesday’s win in Atlanta was the next step in that journey. It was his fourth double-double of the season and second straight. Expect plenty more of those in 2021.
