Takeaway from Dallas Mavericks win over Hawks: 3. Brunson keeps rolling
Jalen Brunson has been a bright spot amidst the Mavs’ slow start. He came into Wednesday’s game averaging 11.5 points and 3.4 assists, while just missing out on the 50-40-90 club because his 3-point percentage sits at 39.1.
Brunson had another strong game against the Hawks. He dropped 12 points, four rebounds, four assists, and one steal in 24 minutes of action. JB was five of eight from the field and perfect on his two free-throw attempts.
The Mavericks outscored the Hawks by seven points with Brunson on the floor. The six players that earned the most minutes on Wednesday night all were positives in the plus/minus, except Josh Richardson, who finished even.
JB is getting more minutes on the floor next to Luka Doncic this season. His playing time was limited to 17.9 minutes per game last year because he rarely shared the floor with the Mavericks superstar. Expect the two to get more run together if Brunson continues his shot stretch. The third-year point guard is a winning player that could be in the midst of a breakout season. Keep an eye on his production moving forward.
