Dallas Mavericks Defensive Player of the Game candidate: 1. Kristaps Porzingis

Last season, Porzingis would have been the favorite to win the belt 14 times. He had five or more blocks in seven different games. KP is the team’s best rim protector. He has blocked two shots in four of his first five games this season, and fans have not seen the best of the Unicorn yet.

Porzingis is also the Mavericks best rebounder. He can take the opposition’s best big man out of the game with his incredible talent on both ends of the floor.

KP is the favorite to win the Defensive Player of the Game belt most often this season. The 25-year-old will earn it frequently. His ability to alter shots and make life difficult on the opposition inside is unique. Hey, they don’t call him the Unicorn for no reason.

Which player wins the Defensive Player of the Game belt is something for Dallas Mavericks fans to watch this season. They have the potential to be an elite team when healthy, but improving their defense is key. Expect the championship belt to be just a bit more incentive to stand out on that end of the floor.
