How Willie Cauley-Stein bolsters the Dallas Mavericks rebounding

The Mavs have struggled on the glass to begin the 2020-2021 season. None of their big men outside of Kristaps Porzingis have been able to transform into a secondary rebounding presence during Luka’s tenure in Dallas. Maxi Kleber, Dwight Powell, and Dorian Finney-Smith often split the duties, but this leads to second-chance opportunities for opposing big men.

One could say it’s because of the offensive scheme or how heavy-handed Luka is when it comes to running the point, but they allow Doncic to grab the rebound because the Mavs play their best offense with the ball in his hands. The Thunder with Russell Westbrook proved that team’s can win with the big men boxing out and allowing the guard to grab the board.

The Mavs have given up too many second-chance points this season. Willie Cauley-Stein has the best potential rebounding numbers of the available big men on this roster sans Porzingis, and in their first game together, Trill grabbed 14 rebounds.

With both seven-footers in the starting lineup, the Dallas Mavericks should be able to solve their rebounding issues. They will have three plus-rebounds in the five and should finish in the top ten in boards.
