Dallas Mavericks: Can Josh Green be the 3-and-D wing the Mavs need?
By Andy Quach
Josh Green can learn from Dallas Mavericks veteran James Johnson
The good news for Josh Green is the Mavericks already have the perfect mentor in place in James Johnson.
Johnson is a versatile forward who can hit 3s, create on the ball, and guard bigger than his size. These are all skills that Green will need to perfect to become the player the Mavericks need.
Green should certainly look to Johnson and soak up all the knowledge that the 12-year veteran has to offer. While Green should be a better shooter than Johnson has been throughout his career, the rookie can certainly learn confidence, playing a role, and how to train his body from the vet.
Not only does Johnson emulate the skills that Green will need to succeed in Dallas, but he also has earned every NBA minute he has played. Johnson went from an inconsistent late first-round pick to a consistent role player to a borderline star in Miami. That kind of rise is a testament to his work ethic and something that Josh Green should replicate.
Green has already garnered attention from Coach Carlisle and the vets on the roster for his work ethic. Here is to hoping that Green can continue to garner respect. Expect him to grow his game to fill the needs of the Dallas Mavericks. Stay tuned.
