Dallas Mavericks player who needs more playing time: 4. Josh Green
Many fans thought the Mavs would trade their 2020 first-round draft pick for a veteran that could help them win this season, but they opted to keep it and select Josh Green. The 20-year-old is a strong perimeter defender that Dallas is hoping to groom into an elite 3-and-D wing.
He looked to be part of the second unit during the preseason, but the minutes have been limited to blowouts since the games started counting. That should come as no surprise to fans as coach Carlisle is often hesitant to play rookies significant minutes, especially early on in their first season. Fans can bet Green is working hard in practice and trying to earn his opportunity.
Green needs playing time for his development. What separates him from fellow rookies Tyrell Terry, Tyler Bey, and Nate Hinton is Green positively impacts winning right now. Fans can see a video breakdown of some of his best plays from the preseason here. The 20-year-old is a smart player that helps the Mavericks while continuing to improve. The organization would prefer he gets those minutes in the G League, but that is not possible this year.
Do not expect to see Josh Green getting meaningful run anytime soon, but he should flash his potential when he gets in the game.
