Dallas Mavericks basketball is officially back. They opened the regular season on Wednesday night in Phoenix against the Suns. Luka Doncic looked to get the Mavs off on the right foot in a difficult road game.
It was the first game in a Suns uniform for Chris Paul and Jae Crowder. The two talented veterans join an exciting young team featuring Devin Booker and Deandre Ayton. The Mavericks pursued Crowder this offseason, but the veteran chose the long-term deal with the Suns.
The Mavs got off to a slow start and trailed most of the game. They came back to tie it in the final four minutes, but could not stop the Suns down the stretch as Phoenix picked up the 106-102 victory to open the season. There were plenty of takeaways for Mavericks fans, though.

It was a poor shooting night for the Mavs. They scored just 22 points and could not buy a field goal in the first quarter. Dallas was nine of 37 from 3-point range in the game and shot just 42.4 percent from the field. The offense found its groove in the second half, but it was not enough against the Suns.
Suns star Deandre Ayton struggled with foul trouble and Chris Paul had an off night, but Phoenix still picked up a victory. Here are five takeaways for Dallas Mavericks fans from the season-opening loss to the Suns.
