Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic finds his footing of season opener versus Suns
Luka started the second half with an incredible assist to Dorian Finney-Smith. The 21-year-old brought out the magic for this one.
Doncic also pulled Mavericks GOAT Dirk Nowitzki’s signature move out of his bag of tricks in the third quarter.
Fans know Luka goes off in the third quarter, and the 2020-2021 season opener was no different. The Mavs superstar had 13 points on three of five from the field in the period. Doncic was drawing fouls and getting into the paint at will. He played all 12 minutes, but Dallas trailed six heading into the final quarter.
The bench cut the lead to three points during Doncic’s rest. He came back in with 6:48 left in the game, but Jalen Brunson sparked the run that allowed the Mavericks to tie the game with 3:37 remaining. The 24-year-old point guard had an outstanding game.
Luka had eight points in the final four minutes, but the Suns did not miss as they grabbed the 106-102 victory. Doncic finished with 32 points, eight rebounds, and five assists in 35 minutes in the season opener.
It was not the start the Dallas Mavericks wanted, and things get no easier as game two is in Los Angeles against the defending champion Lakers on Christmas Day. Expect a bounce-back, though. Luka Doncic found it in the second half. The 21-year-old star could be in for a massive night against his idol LeBron James on the holiday. Do not miss it.
