Dallas Mavericks: Examining the depth chart to start 2020-2021 regular season
By Tyler Watts
Dallas Mavericks depth chart to start regular season: Center
Kristaps Porzingis thrived after shifting to playing primarily at the five last season. Expect Coach Carlisle to use him there again. Fans will have to wait until January for his debut, which creates opportunities for others in the interim.
Injured: Kristaps Porzingis
Porzingis producing All-Star or All-NBA numbers makes the Mavericks an unquestioned top-four team in the Western Conference. He needs to stay healthy, but no team wants to face Dallas with KP firing on all cylinders.
Starter: Dwight Powell
Powell will draw the start on opening night. He was one of the best roll men in the league last season before tearing his Achilles. Fans underrate his offensive contributions. Powell will only play 20 to 25 minutes per game this season, but he will help the Mavericks lead the league in offensive rating for the second straight year.
Backup: Willie Cauley-Stein
Cauley-Stein showed off his improved jumper this preseason. Expect him to get a crack at rotation minutes at some point early this season. Trill will have to seize the opportunity on this deep Mavericks squad.
Third-string: Boban Marjanovic
Boban is the perfect third center. He can come in and dominate the paint in the right matchups. Do not expect him to be a nightly part of the rotation, but Marjanovic will produce when called upon. He brings a ton of leadership and locker room presence too.
The Dallas Mavericks are one of the deepest teams in the NBA this season. They promise to provide plenty of excitement in this fun and wild season that will have fans tuning in every night. Do not miss it.
