Dallas Mavericks depth chart to start regular season: Power forward

The Mavs have options here with more to come when Kristaps Porzingis gets fully healthy.

Starter: Dorian Finney-Smith

Finney-Smith led the Mavericks in minutes played last season, and it should not surprise fans if he does it again. He is one of the team’s best defenders with the versatility to guard anyone on the floor. Doe-Doe took a massive step forward last season to shoot 37.6 percent from 3-point range. Expect him to get 28 to 32 minutes per game in the 2020-2021 season.

Backup: Maxi Kleber

Kleber is coming off the best year of his career and looking to take another step forward. The 28-year-old has the unique ability to defend well both on the perimeter and the paint. Coach Carlisle can use him in any unit. Kleber is primed for more minutes with KP out but will settle in at 20 to 25 per game on most nights.

Third-string: James Johnson

Johnson could be in the nightly rotation. Coach Carlisle used Kleber at the five with Johnson getting the second unit minutes at the four during the preseason. Expect that to continue until Porzingis returns to the lineup. Johnson will only play eight to 15 minutes each night, but he can be impactful on both ends of the floor.
