Dallas Mavericks depth chart to start regular season: Shooting guard

The Mavericks have a similar situation on the wing. Their starter and backup are locked in entering the season.

Starter: Josh Richardson

Richardson is the perfect complement to Luka Doncic in the backcourt. He will handle the toughest perimeter defensive assignment while being a strong floor spacer, secondary creator, and third scorer for the Mavs. The 6’5 wing is set for a career-year playing in Dallas. Fans can read more about what to expect from his partnership with Luka here.

JRich should play 30-35 minutes a night with the majority of those coming next to Doncic. Coach Carlisle will want his floor spacing and defense playing off the Mavericks superstar.

Backup: Trey Burke

Burke joined the Mavs as a substitution player for the Orlando restart. The 28-year-old played so well that he ended up starting the final three playoff games when Kristaps Porzingis went out. Burke is a strong shooter and floor spacer that can get buckets. He will be the Mavericks sixth man this season, but Dallas could start Burke if Luka Doncic or Richardson are forced to miss time.

Expect Burke to get some minutes next to Luka as that pairing performed well during the restart. He should play 15 to 25 per game this season depending on the matchups.
