Dallas Mavericks: Resetting the depth chart heading into training camp
By Tyler Watts
Dallas Mavericks depth chart at the start of training camp: Center
Injured: Kristaps Porzingis
The Mavs are hoping KP will be back in January. That would be on the low end of the timetable for a meniscus repair. They have no reasons to rush the 25-year-old star, so do not be surprised to see him miss a little extra time getting back to 100 percent.
Starter: Dwight Powell
Powell is the presumed starter, but he is coming off an Achilles surgery. The 29-year-old will be the player to watch most closely during training camp. The Mavericks need his outstanding ability as a roll man to maintain their number one offense.
Backup: Willie Cauley-Stein
The Mavericks brought back Cauley-Stein because of the injuries at this position. The 27-year-old is known for his ability as a roll man and defender. It will be interesting to see how this spot plays out during training camp. Trill could pass Powell and become the Mavs starter until Porzingis comes back.
Third-string: Boban Marjanovic
Bobi was outstanding last season including winning the Mavs multiple games with his strong play. The 7’4 big man is impossible to stop on the offensive of the floor. Expect a similar role and the same magic from Marjanovic in 2021.
Overall, the Dallas Mavericks could finish in the top four of the Western Conference this season. They added multiple key role players. Fans will have to wait to see if it was enough. Regardless, Luka Doncic is going to put on a show. The season will be full of entertainment, so please don’t miss a second of the action.
