2. Dallas Mavericks secure Kelly Oubre and Dennis Schroder as Suns nab Chris Paul

If the Thunder lean into rebuilding by trading Chris Paul, they have no reason to keep Dennis Schroder. He is set to make $15.5 million next season in the final year of his deal. The Sixth Man of the Year finalist is in the prime of his career and could play for a contender in Dallas.

Oklahoma City appears to be in draft pick accumulation mode. The Mavericks offering 18 and 31 overall in the 2020 NBA Draft might be enough to net Schroder and Kelly Oubre Jr. That leaves the Thunder with Ricky Rubio and Tim Hardaway Jr. to flip for more draft picks or young players at a later date.

Schroder could be the Mavericks sixth man, who comes off the bench and gets buckets. The 27-year-old may be part of their closing lineup with Luka Doncic, Kristaps Porzingis, Seth Curry, and Oubre Jr. He would be the secondary creator the Mavs desire plus coming to Dallas links him up with fellow German Maxi Kleber.

The Dallas Mavericks adding both Dennis Schroder and Kelly Oubre Jr. pushes them into title contention. They would be a deep team with the ability to match up against anyone. The Mavs could add another strong perimeter defender in free agency, which only further pushes them up the standings.

There is one trade that would be a home run for the Dallas Mavericks, though.
