3. Dallas Mavericks get Kelly Oubre and Ricky Rubio in 3-team deal

Consider this one unlikely, but there is a strong case to be made. Suns are again grabbing Paul for Oubre, Rubio, and a future first. Phoenix will not want to give up the tenth overall pick in 2020, so they likely offer a future protected selection. Oklahoma City is happy to add another draft choice plus has two veterans to flip. That is where Dallas comes in.

The Mavericks could get both players by trading Tim Hardaway Jr., Delon Wright, Justin Jackson, and their two draft selections in 2020. The Thunder would be happy to pick at 18 and 31 overall. Tim Hardaway Jr. must accept his player option for next season to make this deal possible. The Thunder could flip him for additional draft selections or pieces in a subsequent deal.

Ricky Rubio checks a few boxes for the Mavs. The 30-year-old is an outstanding ball-handler and creator. He is also a plus defensive point guard that has nine years of NBA experience guarding the best the league has to offer. Rubio has also shot over 35 percent from 3-point range in two of the last three years, which includes connect on 41.0 percent over 156 catch and shoot threes in the 2019-2020 season.

The Dallas Mavericks are unlikely to add Ricky Rubio, but what if they grab a different point guard in the trade.
