Best-case scenario for Dallas Mavericks star Kristaps Porzingis: Anthony Davis

Anthony Davis has dealt with nagging injuries his entire career, but he has been consistently dominant when healthy. Davis took it to another level this season as he co-piloted the Lakers championship run.

Davis finished second in the Defensive Player of the Year voting and was the steady anchor for the Lakers stifling defense in the playoffs. He has had more injuries than KP, but nothing quite as major as the ACL tear. He played 62 of Los Angeles 71 regular-season games this season and capped it off with 21 more in their championship run.

Before this season, Davis was the poster child for injury-riddled superstar talent in the league. He has never had a fully healthy campaign. Davis’ career-high in games played is 75 twice, but he has not topped 70 in his six other NBA seasons. His myriad of injuries made people wonder if the Lakers could make it to the finish line. They did, and in commanding fashion. Davis is proof that injuries only define a player until they don’t.

Despite that history, Davis continues to cement his legacy as one of the game’s best big men. This shift in his career arc should give fans hope that Kristaps Porzingis can emulate his success.
