Could the Dallas Mavericks trade for Victor Oladipo?

The answer here is 100 percent, yes. Reports suggest the Indiana Pacers will at least look at moving Oladipo and Myles Turner this offseason. They may not find an offer that suits them, but the team is open to trading away their All-Star guard.

The Mavericks have the pieces to acquire Oladipo. If the Pacers want to shed salary, Dallas could offer the two draft picks plus the expiring deals of Justin Jackson and Boban Marjanovic mentioned by Bontemps. The trade saves Indiana nearly $3.5 million next season and keeps them from having to offer Oladipo a max contract.

The Mavericks are interested because Oladipo gives them a third star. He would be capable of running the show while Luka Doncic rests on the bench, which is a strategy Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle could employ to keep Oladipo happy and boost his scoring average. Dallas would have three players capable of getting 20 each night. Their offense could be historic again with a significantly improved defense.

The Mavs have one of the NBA’s top medical staffs. If there is any city where Oladipo is going to get fully healthy and return to form, it is Dallas. The Mavericks would have their third star for one season and still have the chance to chase the big fish in 2021 free agency.
