Dallas Mavericks: Resetting the depth chart heading into the offseason
By Tyler Watts
Dallas Mavericks depth chart heading into offseason: Center
Starter: Dwight Powell
Powell is recovering well from his torn Achilles, and he plans to be ready for training camp whenever that gets underway. The Mavs love his energy, leadership, and ability as a roll man. Powell was the starting center before he got hurt and should return as long as he is healthy.
Coach Carlisle will play the matchups, though. That could mean Powell shifting to the bench as Dallas goes smaller for the night.
Backup: Willie Cauley-Stein
Cauley-Stein has a player option, but all indications point to him coming back next season. He stands out as a roll man and rim protector. Cauley-Stein should be able to handle minutes in every matchup too. Do not expect a massive role, but it would not be surprising to see him average 15-20 minutes per game in 2021.
Third-string: Boban Marjanovic
Bobi was outstanding in the playoffs. Expect coach Carlisle to turn to him whenever the Mavericks are getting dominated in the paint. Marjanovic changes the game when he enters. He is an outstanding rebounder with an impossible to stop floater. Expect Boban to play a similar role to the one he did in the 2019-2020 season.
The Dallas Mavericks have a strong roster in place and plan on making a few tweaks this offseason. Fans will not want to miss, so stay tuned to The Smoking Cuban for all the latest.
