Dallas Mavericks depth chart heading into offseason: Power forward

Starter: Kristaps Porzingis

Where Porzingis starts could depend on who the Mavs add this offseason. The Unicorn thrived playing primarily at the five after Dwight Powell’s injury in 2020. Coach Carlisle will use KP at both positions next season. Where he starts could depend on the matchup along with the Mavericks roster construction.

Porzingis is currently recovering from a torn meniscus suffered in the playoffs. He had surgery, but fans should not worry about the injury. Expect a career season from the Unicorn in 2021.

Backup: Maxi Kleber

Kleber took another step forward in the 2019-2020 season. He proved he can consistently knock down threes while playing outstanding defense. The 28-year-old protects the rim and defends on the perimeter, a unique combination that makes him extremely valuable.

Expect Kleber to earn plenty of starts in 2021 while he averages over 25 minutes a game. His unique skill set will get him on the court.

Dorian Finney-Smith and Dwight Powell will also see minutes at the four. Expect coach Carlisle to use plenty of different lineup combinations during the regular season. The Mavericks will play smaller in the playoffs with Porzingis at the five leaving Finney-Smith and Kleber to handle the minutes at the four.
