Dallas Mavericks: Resetting the depth chart heading into the offseason
By Tyler Watts
Dallas Mavericks depth chart heading into offseason: Shooting guard
Starter: Tim Hardaway Jr.
Hardaway Jr. has an $18.975 million player option for next season, and his decision will have massive impacts on the Mavs offseason. Expect THJ to be back in Dallas where he will be in the starting five. Hardaway Jr. is already working to improve his game including making his increased shooting efficiency the new normal.
Backup: Seth Curry
Curry is an absolute sharpshooter. Expect him to be part of the Mavericks closing lineup on most nights as they go small with Porzingis playing the five. Curry will play plenty of minutes as the Mavs first option off the bench. Expect him to continue to shoot the lights out as he produces another career-year in 2021.
Third-string: Delon Wright
Wright shifted to playing primarily off the ball next to Doncic or Brunson as the season wore on. He is a strong perimeter defender, but the fit was not perfect. There is still plenty of playing time available here. Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle is never afraid to run a three guard lineup. Wright should land between 20 and 25 minutes per game if he is back with the Mavericks.
Dallas will explore the trade market this offseason, and Wright could be a desirable piece for another team. That is something to keep an eye on as things heat up.
