Will the Dallas Mavericks trade for Buddy Hield this offseason?

The Mavs love to shoot 3-pointers. They signed Seth Curry and gave extensions to Maxi Kleber and Dorian Finney-Smith last offseason because the front office liked their ability to stretch the floor for Luka Doncic. Hield is one of the best 3-point shooters in the NBA. Does that make Dallas interested?

Odds the Dallas Mavericks acquire Buddy Hield this offseason: 0.5 percent

I see almost no way the Mavs sacrifice their chance at chasing a legit superstar in 2021 to trade for Buddy Hield. Never say never in the NBA, though. If Sacramento decides to give Hield away for almost nothing, the Mavericks may step in. They could always trade him again in the 2021 offseason if they convince a star to play in Dallas.

Despite Hield just finishing his fourth season in the NBA, he is already in his prime. The 6’4 guard turns 28 in December and is nearly three years older than Kristaps Porzingis.

The Mavericks would have to view as the third star that moves them into title contention to make this trade. There is almost no way the front office does.

This is a story to watch this offseason, though. Buddy Hield is likely to be on the move somewhere. Who knows what team actually pulls off the deal, but stay tuned to find out.
