Dallas Mavericks: Dwight Powell gets props from NBA Commissioner Adam Silver

The Dallas Mavericks were back in the playoffs for the first time since 2016. Led by Luka Doncic, they made it a series before falling to the LA Clippers in the first round. Fans got a game-winning buzzer-beater from Luka which will go down as one of the greatest plays in team history. It is crazy to think it almost never happened.

Fans know that 2020 has been anything but a normal year. The NBA suspended play in March, and there were serious questions on if they would ever finish the 2020 season during the hiatus. For a time, nobody knew if it was possible.

Commissioner Adam Silver talked about that and many other topics during his pre-Finals press conference where he gave a special shout out to Mavs big man Dwight Powell. Let us take a closer look.

Silver gave props to the Player’s Association for their role in making the Walt Disney World restart possible. He started with Michele Roberts and Chris Paul, the two heads of the organization. Then, Silver followed with this.

"“There are two other players on their executive committee I’d also like to single out. That is Kyle Lowry, of course, of the Toronto Raptors and Dwight Powell from the Dallas Mavericks. Chris, Kyle, and Dwight had a weekly call with a group of us at the league office. Those were in that small group where we could have really honest direct conversations with each other about truly understanding the needs of the players, of the teams, and of the league. I want to thank those three players in particular along with their executive committee.”"

Mavs fans knew Powell played a key role in making the restart a reality. Silver reaffirmed that during his press conference. Thanks go out to Powell and the NBA. If you have enjoyed any basketball from the restart, there is plenty to be thankful for there. The group will continue to iron out how to navigate the 2021 season too.

Powell did not get to play in Orlando. He continues to rehab from an Achilles injury suffered in January. The Mavericks big man should be ready to go on the opening night of the 2021 season. It will be awesome to see DP back on the floor, so do not miss it.
