Why the Dallas Mavericks should trade for Chris Paul

The Mavs could use a secondary creator. Paul gives them a player that can take the pressure off Luka Doncic in every situation. The 35-year-old knows how to attack any defense and is one of the smartest players in the league.

Paul can score from anywhere on the floor. There should be no issues playing with Luka either. CP3 was teammates with James Harden in Houston for two seasons. He has also shot 43.9 percent on his 526 catch and shoot 3-point attempts since 2014. Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle can stagger the minutes to maximize ball-handling opportunities for both players.

Paul is one of the best closers in the NBA too. He connected on 56.6 percent from the field in the last five minutes and the game within five points per NBA Stats. The Mavericks struggled in close games this season. That problem could vanish quickly with CP3 in Dallas.

Paul’s ability to dominate the mid-range would give the Mavs offense a different wrinkle. This season, he connected on 54.0 percent of his 291 attempts from that area. Dallas relied on shots in the paint or beyond the 3-point line. Adding in that mid-range game makes them impossible to stop.

Chris Paul is also one of the toughest players in the NBA. The Mavs lacked that, especially in the playoffs against the Clippers.
