Why the Dallas Mavericks should bring back Michael Kidd-Gilchrist

The Mavs are going to be tight on cap space this offseason. Tim Hardaway Jr. has an $18.975 million player option that could change things. If THJ is back in Dallas, the Mavericks will have just the mid-level exception plus minimum contracts to use to fill out their roster unless they get creative.

Kidd-Gilchrist is a fantastic end of the bench option. He can come in and do the job defensively without commanding the ball. The 26-year-old holds his own against any player. He also finishes well around the rim on the offensive end of the floor.

The Mavericks will be filling their roster with minimum contract players. Most of them are one-dimensional options. Few will be able to defend better than Michael Kidd-Gilchrist. Dallas needs to improve on that end of the floor. It opens the door for a reunion this offseason.

The Mavs had fantastic team chemistry in 2019-2020. They will value that moving forward. It would be another reason to re-sign Michael Kidd-Gilchrist. He knows the playbook and was an important piece for the team in the playoffs.

The Dallas Mavericks will have some interest in bringing back MKG, but it is no slam dunk.
