The best-case scenario for Dallas Mavericks wing Josh Reaves

The NBA is run by wings and perimeter players. Teams need defenders that can make life difficult on the superstars. On the other end, the 3-point shot has become the most important aspect of many offenses. To satisfy both needs, every team in the NBA wants multiple 3-and-D wing players.

At 6″4 and 214 pounds, the best-case scenario is for Josh Reaves to develop into a Raja Bell or Danny Green. Reaves has not had much time to prove that his defense will translate to the NBA. If one makes the assumption that it will, then he might already be halfway there. His shot remains the massive question mark.

Luka Doncic is one of the best players in the NBA to team up with if you’re looking to get open shots. If Reaves is ever able to play extended minutes with Luka, he will surely receive chances to take and make wide-open three-pointers. Reaves will also have to improve his passing, ball handling, and decision making to play a key role in the NBA.

After watching Justin Jackson miss multiple layups in the bubble, Mavs fans are itching at the chance to replace him in the rotation. They are used to seeing insane player development jumps because of Luka.

Supporters should not expect Reaves to become a starting-caliber player quickly. It could take three to five years, and the Dallas Mavericks may not have that time to wait for Reaves to reach his ceiling.
