How can Dallas Mavericks make the Western Conference Finals? 3. Luka needs to be spectacular

The Mavs are already asking Luka Doncic to essentially create everything for them on offense, and he is doing it well. Luka has three triple-doubles in the bubble which leads the league. In both wins in the bubble featuring Doncic, he recorded a 30 point triple-double. Dallas still needed overtime to win both games.

Luka not only creates for himself, but the real magic is his passing. Per NBA Stats, 52.6 percent of Maxi Kleber’s and 45.0 percent of Dorian Finney-Smith’s 3-point attempts this season were without a defender within six feet. The rest of the Mavericks need to do their part and knock down their open shots. Luka makes it so much easier for role players to thrive.

So far in the bubble, Doncic is averaging 33.4 points, 11.6 rebounds, and 11.6 assists per game. He ranks in the top five in the NBA in each category. If Luka is putting up these numbers, the Mavs will have a chance in every game.

Will Luka be able to sustain this level of play in a seven-game playoff series? Only time will tell. Given his experience in Europe plus his level of play so far, it would not be smart to bet against the 21-year-old superstar.
