Will the Dallas Mavericks trade for Otto Porter?

This question is easier to answer. There is a lot of risk in acquiring Porter this offseason. The Bulls are not one of the 22 teams taking part in the restart meaning his season is over. The Mavs have to be worried about his injury history. They want to add a third scorer, but he has to be on the court to help them win games.

If Chicago wants to get off Porter’s contract, the Mavericks may be interested. Other than that, the odds of them acquiring Porter this offseason sit at about two percent. The Mavs are not going to give up their limit draft assets to acquire one season of Porter, especially when he is coming off two straight years of injury issues.

Expect the Bulls to be working the phones on Porter both this offseason and at the trade deadline if they do not get a deal done sooner. Chicago is still rebuilding, so grabbing a few additional assets for his expiring contract seems wise.

The Dallas Mavericks will be searching the market this offseason too. They want to move into title contention. That means adding a piece or two that complements their two stars. Stay tuned to see what Donnie Nelson and the front office can pull off this offseason. Expect the Mavs to keep climbing either way.
