Should the Dallas Mavericks trade for Otto Porter?

The Mavs need to answer two other questions before we can determine if they should trade for Porter. How healthy is he? And what is the cost to acquire him?

Porter returned for five games before the NBA suspended play. He played 25.5 minutes in each of the last two. The 27-year-old never ramped up to his full workload, though.

The injuries are piling up a bit. He has dealt with numerous ones over the last two years that have limited to just 70 games since the start of the 2018-2019 season. If the Mavericks get assurance that he is healthy, they know Porter can produce on the court.

The other question is what does the trade package look like. Reports suggest the Bulls plan to move on after his contract expires. That is tough to gauge given their new front office, but the Mavs may be able to acquire him at a discount.

The Mavericks would get one season for Porter to prove he is healthy too. If it just costs them matching contracts and a few second round picks, Dallas may jump at that chance. It gives them a capable 3-and-D forward that can score 15-plus per game. Porter would fit well in Dallas when healthy.
