Dallas Mavericks: Best players at each position in the last decade
By Chad Sanchez
Shooting guard: Vince Carter
Vince Carter played with the Mavs from 2011-2014. He signed as a free agent just after Dallas won the title. Carter was 34 years old and on the downside of his career. Vinsanity did not have his prime explosiveness but had up for it with his veteran presence.
Carter has adjusted his game tremendously as he has aged. He went from Half-Man/Half-Amazing to a sixth man to a role-playing 3-point marksman. That ability to adapt has extended his career. Carter is still playing at age 43.
Over his three seasons with the Mavericks, Carter averaged 12.0 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game. He shifted to a bench role. Carter dropped a few highlight-reel dunks in Dallas too.
Carter’s most memorable moment in Dallas was his game three winner against the San Antonio Spurs in the first round of the 2014 playoffs. Mavs fans can enjoy that play again here.
With just 01.7 seconds left and the Spurs up by two, Carter caught the ball in the corner. He pump fakes to get Ginobili in the air and sinks the shot for the win. For that, he earns the honor of the best shooting guard of the last decade in a Dallas Mavericks uniform.
