1. Luka Doncic, Dallas Mavericks

It is difficult to argue for anyone else to win this award. Luka Doncic went from Rookie of the Year to a superstar. He started in the All-Star game and should be a first-team All-NBA selection when the ballots are returned. Doncic made the most difficult leap there is as a 21-year-old.

Mavericks fans know the story. Luka committed to improving his conditioning and left hand after his rookie season. The results have been fantastic. Doncic is attacking the basket more and finishing at 75.4 percent from zero to three feet. That is elite production for a guard.

Luka’s numbers speak for themselves. He is averaging 28.7 points, 9.3 rebounds, and 8.7 assists per game. Doncic increased his field goal percentage to 46.1 too. That is impressive given the number of difficult shots Luka has to take. Teams are game planning to stop him, and they can barely slow him down.

Doncic is on pace to be the third player in NBA history to average over 28 points, nine rebounds, and 8.5 assists per game for a full season. The only other two to ever do it are Oscar Robertson and Russell Westbrook.

Luka is a better defender than he gets credit for and has pushed into the top ten players in NBA. No teams are excited to see him lining up against them. Things should only improve for Doncic too. Imagine when he pushes his 3-point percentage to even a league-average rate. It is going to be fun for Mavericks fans.
