Leadership

Courtney Lee also brings that veteran presence. He is in his 12th NBA season, so nothing is new to him. Young teams need that type of player that can help them through difficult stretches.

His 50 career playoff games may come in handy for Dallas as they enter the postseason. Not many Mavericks have been there before. It will be new as the intensity ratchets up. J.J. Barea and Courtney Lee could be used as calming presences off the bench in Dallas’ most important games.

Looking ahead

Dallas Mavericks supporters can expect Courtney Lee to play a bit more down the stretch. He could pass Justin Jackson in the pecking order and join the nightly rotation.

Lee has played a different role with Dallas this season. He has seen the majority of his minutes at the three for the first time in his career. Lee has also played the four ten percent of the time according to Basketball-Reference. He had never seen a minute there before this season.

Lee would be a fixture in most rotations across the NBA. Players that can shoot nearly 40 percent from 3-point range and defend well do not grow on trees. It is a testament to the Dallas Mavericks’ depth that he does not play more. Expect contributions down the stretch, though.
