Dallas Mavericks assistant coach Darrell Armstrong will be inducted into the Orlando Magic Hall of Fame on Feb. 21. Find out more here.

The Dallas Mavericks are back from the All-Star break and face the Orlando Magic in their first game on Friday night. The fact that the Mavs are on the road could be a welcomed sight. They have played much better away from the American Airlines Center this season.

Friday will be more than just the game for the Mavericks. Assistant coach Darrell Armstrong will be inducted into the Orlando Magic Hall of Fame. It is a massive honor for him. The Magic do not retire jerseys. Their Hall of Fame takes its place. Armstrong will be just the fifth player inducted.

Nine seasons with Magic

Darrell Armstrong worked his way into the Magic Hall of Fame. He was undrafted. DA barely played in his two seasons in Orlando. He kept grinding, though. Eventually working his way into the starting five and becoming the team’s floor general. Armstrong is a fierce competitor. It is amazing to see that being rewarded.

Playing for Mavs

Armstrong played 114 games for the Dallas Mavericks during his NBA career. He only averaged 10.5 minutes per game during those two seasons. DA was in his mid-30s by the time he made it to Dallas. He was a veteran presence on two playoff teams.

Coaching career

Armstrong retired from the NBA in 2008. He joined the Mavs coaching staff under Rick Carlisle in 2009. Armstrong has been an assistant with the team ever since. He is beloved by the players. The ceremony begins at 4 p.m. on Friday night. Armstrong will also be honored during the game. It will be a special night that Dallas Mavericks fans should enjoy.
