Rebounding

Dorian Finney-Smith is third on the Dallas Mavericks in rebounding this season. He is averaging 5.7 per game which trails only Doncic and Porzingis. Since Dwight Powell suffered his season-ending Achilles injury on Jan. 21, Finney-Smith has boosted it to 8.1 rebounds a night over the Mavericks seven contests. He has been playing more at the four, plus Doncic has missed three of those games with a sprained ankle.

Doe-Doe excels on the offensive glass. That has helped the Mavs offense tremendously. Finney-Smith averages 2.1 offensive rebounds per game for the season which ranks 27th in the NBA. Those are two extra possessions for the team. It is contagious too. The Mavericks are second in the NBA in offensive rebounds per game this season.

Must Read. Grading the Willie Cauley-Stein trade

Finney-Smith works hard and makes the right plays. He is always boxing his man out when the shot goes up. That has freed up Doncic to swoop in and grab a ton of rebound this season. Putting the ball in Luka’s hands earlier allows the Mavs to change ends quickly and get right into their offense. It takes a team effort on the glass, though.

Doe-Doe stepping up is one of the main reasons the Mavericks are fourth in rebounds per game this season despite worries they would struggle in that area to begin the season. His contributions do not go unnoticed.
