Offense

Willie Cauley-Stein operates like a traditional center on the offensive end. He is in his fifth NBA season. WCS played four years in Sacramento before joining the Warriors this offseason. He has taken 18 3-point attempts in his career and none of them have come this season.

Cauley-Stein wants to attack in the paint. He has attempted 191 of his 261 field goals within eight feet of the basket. He is connecting 65.4 percent of those tries according to NBA Stats. Cauley-Stein sits at 55.9 percent from the field overall. He takes the occasional mid-range jumper, but Mavs fans can expect Coach Carlisle to help him limit those inefficient attempts.

More. Why the Mavs should trade for Robert Covington

Trill fits in well as a roll man. He will set screens and dives to the rim. The Mavericks run a ton of pick and rolls especially with Luka Doncic on the floor. Cauley-Stein can fill Powell’s role while Kristaps Porzingis spaces the floor on the perimeter.

The fit on the offensive end should work well. The two have wildly different skillsets. Cauley-Stein can operate in the paint while Porzingis does his best work on the perimeter. The only hiccup could be eliminating the post ups from Trill. He averaged 2.3 per game during his time in Golden State. Coach Carlisle would love to decrease that number.

Expect Willie Cauley-Stein to play well as the Mavericks roll man once he gets acclimated to the offense.
