Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic had his ankle sprain confirmed by an MRI. Get the latest on his injury and potential return here.
Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic has played unbelievable basketball this season. The 20-year-old was named an All-Star starter and is making a push to win the MVP award. He is averaging 28.8 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 8.7 assists.
The only thing that has been able to slow him down is ankle injuries. He missed four games in mid-December after spraining it against the Heat. Luka stepped on Kendrick Nunn‘s foot.
Luka suffered a second sprain to that right ankle during Thursday’s practice. Here is the latest update on the Mavericks star.
Out at least six games
Brad Townsend shared the following news on Friday afternoon.
I'm told that MRI on Doncic revealed the Mavericks' hoped-for best-case scenario: A moderate sprain, similar to the one he suffered in mid-December, causing him to miss four games. One source estimates this time, "two weeks, give or take."

Mike Peasley also tweeted what Coach Rick Carlisle had to say during his radio spot.
BREAKING: Rick Carlisle on his radio show on @1033fmESPN says Luka Doncic has been ruled out for the next 6 games

Both are saying the same thing. The schedule just happens to be busier this time. The Mavs have six games in the next ten days. Luka Doncic will likely miss all of them. It is not ideal, but it could have been much worse.
Back for All-Star weekend?
Carlisle also had this to say about Luka Doncic returning for the upcoming All-Star festivities.
Carlisle repeats rough 6-game timetable for Doncic. Says it his gut feeling that Doncic will be able to go through All-Star game and festivities. If, health permitting, Doncic can do so, franchise believes it is important for him to play.

The 20-year-old was named an All-Star starter and is expected to play in the NBA’s Rising Stars game too. The All-Star weekend kicks off on Feb. 14. Luka has just over two weeks to recover. That seems reasonable, but injuries are always fluid. Fans should see how Doncic progresses. Expect the Mavericks star to be back on the court dominating before long.
The team won two of the four games Luka missed the first time. Hopefully, the Mavs can tread water while he recovers. They need Kristaps Porzingis and others to step up. Expect Carlisle to have them ready.
The Smoking Cuban will have all the Luka Doncic updates plus opinions and analysis on the Dallas Mavericks, so checking back regularly is recommended for all supporters.
