4. Upgrade
Robert Covington would be a significant upgrade for the Dallas Mavericks. They are already a deep team. The Mavs win a lot of games because of that depth. Justin Jackson has been consistently playing 20 minutes per game with Porzingis out. Covington would immediately upgrade that spot.

He would also provide coverage in case Porzingis’ injury lingers. The Mavericks are currently relying on Dwight Powell and Maxi Kleber as the two starting big men with Dorian Finney-Smith and Jackson filling in the remaining minutes at the four. Covington is a versatile forward capable of playing 32 minutes each night.
The Mavs would also have the luxury of playing small more. Covington has played 86 percent of his minutes as a small-ball four this season. The option could pay massive dividends in the postseason. Teams love to play small in an attempt to space the floor. Having the defense of Covington, Finney-Smith, and Kleber would make it difficult for every opponent too.
Playing RoCo with Porzingis in the frontcourt gives the Mavericks a five out lineup that would be difficult to cover on the offensive end of the floor. Coach Carlisle will often opt for a rim rolling big man to partner with Doncic in the pick and roll, but it would be another dimension the Mavs could explore.
Acquiring Robert Covington would be a massive upgrade to the roster.
