This is a “win now” move for the Dallas Mavericks. Derrick Favors is an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season, but he provides immediate help for a playoff run. It would be difficult to let go of Justin Jackson because of his potential. The upgrade of Favors is better than the Mavs sitting on their hands and waiting, though.

While you might ask, “why would the Mavericks do this if Favors will be a free agent this summer?” They shouldn’t wait for the summer. The Mavs need to beef up their post game for the 2020 playoffs.

Now, this is just an outline of a move the Mavericks would benefit from making. More picks could be swapped and players could be added into the final trade. Maybe even a third team? The trade deadline is on Feb. 6, and the Mavericks are going to be active in hopes of improving their roster.

Never count anything out for the Mavs. They are one of the most tight-lipped organizations in the NBA.
