Luka Doncic will be the biggest star of the next decade
By Tyler Watts
3. Age and career trajectory
Dallas Mavericks fans hear it all the time. Luka Doncic is only 20 years old. He turns 21 on Feb. 28. That means at the conclusion of the decade in 2029, Doncic will be 30 years old. All his best seasons will likely take place over the next ten.
None of the other current top talents can make that claim. Giannis Antetokounmpo will be 35 at the close of the decade. LeBron James will be retired, and James Harden will be 40. The fact that Luka is standing out now gives him a head start on any player potentially coming up to challenge him for the title over the next decade too.
Looking back at NBA history shows us that elite 20-year-old players only drop off early because of injuries. If Doncic can stay healthy, he is on pace to be an all-time great. The inner-circle Hall of Famer and player of a generation type of talent. He may rival Dirk Nowitzki for the greatest player in Mavericks’ history.
The numbers are on the side of Luka Doncic being elite for the entire decade and jumping his way into the conversation for the league’s best player over the majority of the next ten years. It will be difficult for any current or upcoming player to contend with Luka over that span.
